Netexplorateur is an organization under the patronage of The Senat and Prime Minister of France. Organized around an Intelligence Network of 200 spotters worldwide, the Netexplorateur Observatory watches the internet through its new uses. Every year, researchers, journalists, academics, technologists and experts contribute to our intelligence work by identifying the most promising emerging uses that will shape the way we consume, communicate, work, learn and live.

“Observing how digital media are changing our private and work lives in depth, and how one interacts with the other.”

The Netexplorateur Observatory is comprised of two interrelated fields of research:

The “Netexplorateur 100″
The 100 most promising initiatives in digital media and the Web from around the world, based on criteria of originality, impact and exemplarity. The Netexplorateur 100 is a pragmatic approach to the global digital revolution, based on the power of example To reveal innovative uses of digital technology, Netexplorateur’s founders set up the Netexplorateur 100, an exclusive selection list of the most promising initiatives worldwide. The selection recognizes 100 pioneers who produce mobile applications, Web 2.0 sites, software or games, break new ground in culture or education, think up new forms of solidarity or citizenship or transform management methods and business models. These 100 Netexplorateurs are exploring new territories and creating new practices to map out and shape the digital era.

The“NetexploraTrend” study
Drawing on the analysis of all the projects selected for the Netexplorateur 100, the study reveals and interprets the major digital trends that will influence consumer habits, business models, company organisations and lifestyles. The Netexplorateur Observatory’s forward-looking approach is primarily designed to assist French decision-makers in their strategic choices.

Methodology is based on two phases
PROSPECTING: Our intelligence network’s vocation is to spot the most significant new uses of digital technology. The selected results of that prospecting work form the Netexplorateur 100. Out of all the innovations in The Netexplorateur 100, international experts elect the 10 “Netexplorateurs of the Year” behind the most promising digital initiatives.

PERSPECTIVE: The mission of the team of sociologists that produces the annual NetexploraTrend study, led by Bernard Cathelat, is to understand the impact of those innovations and bring out the underlying trends.
